Utah's Nickname: The Beehive State.
State Wildflower: The Indian Blanket is red with yellow tips. It symbolizes the state's scenic beauty as well as the its Indian heritage. The wildflower blooms in June and July.
State Bird: The Scissor-Tailed Flycatcher is a somewhat quiet bird with beautiful plumage and a long sleek tail that is twice as long as its body. The deeply-forked tail resembles a pair of scissors.
State Motto: Labor Omnia Vincit {Labor Conquers All Things}

Utah became the 45th state in 1896, though it was settled in 1847. We have 29 counties covering almost 85,000 square miles. If you would like to participate in The American History and Genealogy Project, please see the About page.
